The city is located in the mountainous area of southern Kazakhstan in the foothills of the Trans-Ili Alatau at an elevation of 2,300–3,000 feet (700–900 m).This mountain view is the thing I like the most about Almaty. Even within the city, I could see the glacier clearly (but there were 2 days very foggy) which seemed so close to me, feeling too unreal to me. I miss this feeling.
